UG NEET Courses. Choose the degree, not just the college.

Each medical route has its own length, eligibility and destination. Understand them properly before you build your counselling choice list.

Before anything else

Are you eligible for NEET-based admission?

NEET (UG) is the single entrance test for almost every undergraduate medical and dental seat in India. These are the baseline requirements.

Qualifying exam

Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as core subjects.

Qualifying marks

A valid NEET score at or above the category cut-off percentile published by NTA for that year.

Age

Minimum 17 years as on 31 December of the admission year. Always confirm the current upper-age position on the official notice.

Rules on attempts, age and subject combinations are revised from time to time. Treat this page as orientation and verify the final criteria in the current NEET information bulletin at nta.ac.in.
The degrees

Five routes, five very different careers.

Allopathy · Modern medicine

MBBS

Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery. The route to becoming a registered medical practitioner — and the gateway to MD/MS specialisation later.

4.5 yrs + 1 yr internship Govt, deemed, central, private

Leads to: general practice, then specialisation (MD/MS), super-specialty (DM/MCh), research or public health.

Dental surgery

BDS

Bachelor of Dental Surgery. Diagnosis and treatment of teeth, gums and oral health — clinical from early on, with a paid/rotatory internship.

4 yrs + 1 yr internship Counselled with MBBS

Leads to: dental practice, MDS specialisation (orthodontics, oral surgery, etc.), or hospital dentistry.

Where you'll study

The same degree costs very differently by college type.

Fees and bonds vary enormously. Factor total cost — not just the brand — into your choice list.

01

Government colleges

Lowest fees, high competition. Filled by 15% AIQ (MCC) and 85% state quota. Often the best value — and the toughest closing ranks.

02

Deemed & central universities

100% counselled by MCC. Includes AIIMS, JIPMER, BHU, AMU, DU and deemed institutions. Fees range from modest (central) to high (deemed).

03

Private & minority colleges

Counselled by state authorities. self-finance Government Quota, Management and NRI seats carry higher fees; understand the fee structure and any bond before locking choices.
